Chipmunk Rescue:  Rescue / Rehoming / Rehabilitation Terms

All callers and users of this website are advised on the proper care of Chipmunks and Squirrels to the best of our knowledge and experience, and it is YOUR responsibility to make sure that the animals receive proper Veterinary attention, the correct level of care and that their housing is clean, safe and secure.
> We will not allow rehoming to people who intend only to breed Chipmunks for making money - this is unacceptible.
> We will not allow rehoming of Chipmunks to any persons who intend keeping them in a small cage.
> All rehomings are subject to inspection of their new home - we are sure genuine, caring people will not object to us taking a look at the housing they have prepared. We can advise on all aspects of their care.
> Please be aware that it is actually illegal for individuals to release Grey Squirrels back into the wild once in captivity, in the UK.  It is also illegal to sell them on to someone else.
> Handling UK Red Squirrels requires a licence, if you intend to hand-rear them or care for them yourself = You MUST follow any given advice.
> There are laws throughout all States in the US governing the care of wild animals, because of health hazards (such as rabies). It is illegal - without licence - to keep a wild Chipmunk or Squirrel; a (licensed) wildlife rehabilitator should be sought in all cases.
> When frightened, Chipmunks and Squirrels are likely to try to bite you, it is their only real means of defending themselves against possible danger. It is YOUR responsibility to have UNDERSTANDING and to make sure that YOU DON'T GET BITTEN!!
THANK YOU!
